Sgt (Ret.) Richard Massimino, USMC
Richard Massimino grew up in Woodstock, GA and moved with his family to Tampa, FL when he was 16 years old. An active student, he was on the swim team and regularly participated in community service projects through high school. His grandfather, a World War II veteran, was an important figure in Richard's life. Massimino's father also served in the Air Force during the Vietnam era. Both of these men inspired Richard to fulfill his lifelong dream of joinding the US Marine Corps.
Over the course of three deployments, Massimino sustained a grade one concussion, traumatic brain injury, three compression fractures in his back, and severe asthma attacks.. Due to all of the life threatening injuries, he now has three herniated discs, degenerative deterioration of the bone, a compressed spine, severe asthma, as well as severe post-traumatic stress.
Richard looks forward to adjusting to his "new normal" alongside his wife and full-time caregiver, Natasha, and their three children in their Helping A Hero home.
