Cpl (Ret.) Steven Schulz, USMC
Cpl (Ret.) Steven Schultz was born in Austin, TX and spent much of his childhood in the small town of Karnes City, TX. An active young man, Schultz loved outdoor activities and helping his grandfather at their ranch. After graduating from Friendswood High School, Steven spent a semester at community college. He was inspired to join the US Marine Corps after the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
During his second deployment to Iraq, Steven was hit by an improvised explosive device. After receiving emergency treatment in Iraq, he was sent to Germany and then Maryland for further medical attention. The incident left him with a traumatic brain injury, weak left side, blind right eye, and visual neglect on the left side. Steven's mother quit her teaching job to be his caretaker, and was with him every day during his initial recovery. Steven continues with rehabilitation and is able to stand with assistance, but spends most of his time in a wheelchair. He is a testament to willpower and determination.
Steven resides in Texas in his specially adapted Helping A Hero home with his mother and hopes to start a family of his own one day.
